SAN DIEGO, CA – Heritage Golf Group, LLC (HGG), a leading owner and operator of premier golf properties across the country, announced today that TPC Tampa Bay recently hosted a charity Golf Tournament and auction raising more than $1.4 million to support PGA TOUR Charities, Inc.’s Birdies for the Brave® program. The charity event, held on Monday, August 27th, 2012, was organized by a group of corporate leaders and Washington, D.C. professionals during the Republican National Convention.
In addition to the funds raised during the charity tournament at TPC Tampa Bay, other resources were donated to our nation’s military heroes at the event – including two specially adapted homes awarded to deserving wounded warriors and their families and new transportation to our veterans. The fundraiser was co-hosted by SAP and Intel Corporation, with Honorary Co-Chairmen Speaker John Boehner, Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell, Co-CEO of SAP Bill McDermott and Paul Otellini, President and CEO of Intel Corporation.
Supporters included numerous members of Congress and Governors, corporate leaders like Bridgestone, Ford Motor Company, the National Association of Homebuilders, Amway, eBay, Yamaha, Verizon, Artemis Strategies and the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.
“It was an honor to host this event in celebration of our military heroes,” said Brady Boyd, General Manager of TPC Tampa Bay. “The combined support of our committee members, sponsors and local community has made this the most successful fundraiser that we’ve ever hosted in support of Birdies for the Brave. We are truly grateful for the daily sacrifices that our military members and their families make and I hope that we can continue to make a positive impact in their lives.”
Since 2008, the Heritage Golf Group Collection of Clubs have enthusiastically championed the Birdies for the Brave program, raising more than $1.8 million in support of the military homefront charities. TPC Tampa Bay is one of nine Heritage Golf Group properties to host Birdies for the Brave fundraisers this year. Birdies for the Brave provides much needed support to members of the United States Armed Forces and their families and is a primary element of Heritage Golf Group’s philanthropic endeavors.
Birdies for the Brave is a military outreach initiative that is dedicated to supporting the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Funds from these events will benefit numerous military homefront groups that are supported by PGA TOUR players, including: Green Beret Foundation (www.greenberetfoundation.org) — Bubba Watson; Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org) and Special Operations Warrior Foundation (www.specialops.org) — Phil Mickelson; Military Warriors Support Foundation (www.militarywarriors.org) — Ted Purdy, David Toms; Navy SEAL Foundation (www.nswfoundation.org) – Jerry Kelly, Frank Lickliter II, Vijay Singh; United Through Reading (www.unitedthroughreading.org) — Rory Sabbatini; Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) — Jason Gore, Nick Watney, Boo Weekley; and Operation Homefront (www.operationhomefront.net) – Corey Pavin.
