Completes head-to-toe renovation on stunning lake-view property
(SCOTTSDALE, AZ) – Schmidt-Curley Design – one of golf’s most active and innovative design firms – has completed a total remodel of Nanlihu Golf Club on China’s tropical Hainan Island.
Located 45 minutes south of the capital city of Haikou, the par-72, 7,000-plus yard layout adjoins scenic Nanli Lake. Lead designer Lee Schmidt spearheaded the complete course transformation.
Wickedly shaped, grass-faced bunkers complement undulating Paspalum fairways and boldly contoured green surfaces. Full-grown palm trees were transplanted throughout to immediately give the course a mature look.
“With an improved routing, wall-to-wall Paspalum turf, enhanced strategic options and 11 holes bordering the lake, Nanlihu is now a stern, picturesque test for all to enjoy,” says Lee Schmidt. “Our firm has successfully performed a number of renovations over the years, from major overhauls to minor tweaks, and relishes opportunities to inject new life into outdated courses.”
Case in point is Schmidt-Curley’s work at Siam Country Club’s Old Course in Pattaya, Thailand. New greens, improved bunkering and removal of select trees to improve air flow around greens and reclaim playing corridors netted Asian Golf Monthly’s 2008 “Best Renovation” award. Post-remodel, the Old Course has hosted four editions of the Honda LPGA Thailand, crowning a “who’s who” of champions – Yani Tseng (twice), Ai Miyazato and Suzann Pettersen.
Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, Schmidt-Curley has two fully-staffed China offices (Haikou and Kunming). This unmatched presence in the Asian market promotes quicker mobilization, lower travel costs and other valuable advantages over competitors.
