Highlights five fun activities parents and children can enjoy together

(ORLANDO, FL) – The ANNIKA Foundation is encouraging children and their parents to get active during National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.

Founded in 2007, the Foundation is dedicated to teaching children the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition. To commemorate National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, it is highlighting five economical activities for parents and children at http://annikafoundation.org/blog: Family Olympics, Bike Riding, Nature Walks, Indoor Obstacle Course and Putt-Putt.

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month is an initiative of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). According to ACSM, 23 million children and teenagers in the U.S. between the ages of two and 19 are obese or overweight. This epidemic puts nearly one-third of America’s children at early risk for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and even stroke – conditions usually associated with adulthood.

“September is an especially meaningful time of year for our Foundation,” says Annika. “We hope our five suggestions will motivate adults and children alike to take a break from sedentary activities like watching television or playing video games and get active.”

The Foundation is also participating in a contest to win a “Pump It Up Perfect 10” party. One person will be selected to win a party for up to 10 children at any Pump It Up location nationwide.

Visit facebook.com/AnnikaFoundation to enter. The winner will be announced on October 2.
