Luke Donald provides key insight and critical knowledge in development of his new “Player’s Cavity” irons

Norcross, GA (September 28, 2012) – Mizuno, the leader in iron technology and development, today announced the launch of the MP-64 irons, the company’s finest “player’s cavity” irons design. The full body Diamond Muscle Design in the Grain Flow Forged MP-64 delivers unparalleled long-iron forgiveness and enhanced control in the scoring irons.

The world’s premier iron player Luke Donald, Mizuno Brand Ambassador, provided Mizuno engineers with significant and valuable feedback throughout the development of the MP-64 irons. Donald was so impressed with the end result and performance of the MP-64 irons that he put them in play prior to the start of the 2012 FedEx Cup Playoffs. Precise control of vibration frequencies at the point of impact, known as Harmonic Impact Technology (H.I.T.), paired with high-quality 1025E Pure Select steel and Mizuno’s patented Grain Flow Forging Process deliver the ultimate feel, precision and ball control.

“Serious golfers are constantly on the lookout for the next new iron that is going to give them an edge over the competition, and we believe the MP-64s fit the bill,” said Dick Lyons VP and General Manager, Mizuno USA, Inc. “Luke Donald played a crucial role in the design stage, providing valuable perspective that allowed us to create our best ‘player’ irons to date. If the feel and performance satisfy Luke, we’re confident we’ve created an iron that is going to perform for a lot of players.”

The MP-64 irons feature a flow cavity design that features a deeper cavity in the long irons for increased playability and a shallower cavity in the mid and short irons for enhanced control and workability. Donald was especially instrumental in the design of the sole of the MP-64’s. The sole delivers consistent turf interaction for predictable trajectory and an unmatched ability to control the ball off the clubface.

A double-nickel chrome finish, highlighted with a 3D forged Mizuno Runbird logo, provides an elegant and durable finish while highlighting Mizuno’s precision forging expertise and offering a new, high-tech look.
