DALLAS – Eagle Golf was selected from among eight prospective companies to manage Meadowbrook Country Club in Kilgore, Texas, thanks to a family-first approach.
Meadowbrook, a private, nine-hole golf club, is currently being purchased by the city of Kilgore. The club had been struggling financially to maintain the golf course, clubhouse, restaurant and swimming pool.
“Eagle Golf came to the city with more of a focus on a family atmosphere,” said Kilgore City Manager Scott Sellers. “They wanted to create an environment that golf was only a part of as opposed to being the main thrust of the course. This would include recreational programming for youth; it would also include the possible utilization of Meadowbrook Park across the street from the golf course, as well as expanded uses for the existing pool and 19th Hole restaurant at the course.
“Their approach was unique in that it was an expanded direction from what has historically been attempted at the country club and would appeal to a larger portion of city residents.”
Dallas-based Eagle Golf, which manages 30 golf facilities in Texas and across the country, has a history of successful partnerships with municipalities.
“We’re taking a high-end private club mentality, and, using our experience with other municipalities, creating a community club atmosphere where everyone is welcome,” said Kathryn Comfort, Eagle Golf’s senior vice president of private clubs. “Moving forward, Meadowbrook will be a semi-private facility. We’re going to take care of our current members with special benefits while also encouraging those in the community to come out and play golf as well.”
After interviewing representatives from three of the eight management companies that expressed an interest in running Meadowbrook, the Kilgore City Council voted unanimously in favor of Eagle Golf. The city is expected to complete its $275,000 purchase of Meadowbrook in October, at which point Eagle Golf will assume management.
Eagle has been in operation for more than 28 years. Based in Dallas, the company provides a full suite of golf course management services to 30 golf facilities across the country. More information can be found at www.eaglegolf.com.
