Centennial, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2012) – Scott Stubbs, a Certified Personal Coach at the GolfTEC Improvement Center in Rancho Bernardo, Calif., is the 2012 Golf Professional of the Year in the Southern California Section of the Professional Golfers Association of America.
A member of the PGA of America since 1989 who has served both as President and Vice President of the SCPGA Section, Stubbs will be one of the guests of honor as the SCPGA Annual Meeting Dec. 3 at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.
“There are so many quality people who deserve this award,” said, Stubbs, 50. “It is so rewarding.”
The Golf Professional of the Year Award honors a PGA member’s career contributions to the game, with an emphasis on the most recent five years. The selection process focuses on overall performance, service to the PGA, leadership, the ability to inspire PGA Professionals, and promotion of golf and the image of the game.
Recently joining GolfTEC, Stubbs has close to 30 years of experience in the golf business.

Being named Golf Professional of the Year, Stubbs follows in the footsteps of his early mentor, Andy Thuney, longtime head pro at Hacienda Golf Club, who was SCPGA Professional of the Year in 1988 and inducted into the section Hall of Fame in 2001. Thuney also now works for GolfTEC, in Huntington Beach, Calif.
“I appreciate being associated with this award because of so many great golf professionals who have been honored with it,” Stubbs said. “I have loved my role as club professional and cherish all the people I have been associated with along the way. I have been in the PGA 22 years and head professional the past 15 years, and wouldn’t trade a minute of it for anything.”
A native of Whittier, Stubbs grew up in La Habra, introduced to golf at age 8 by his father at the Fullerton par-3 course. Coincidentally, when Stubbs started taking golf lessons, they were inside a golf shop in La Habra, where he took instruction for two years. “In a way, I have come full circle, teaching at the GolfTEC center,” Stubbs notes.
Stubbs played junior golf and two seasons at Fullerton College, then opted to pursue a career in golf business. In 1983 he began his career as a golf professional virtually down the street from home, at Hacienda Golf Club, where he was an assistant from 1983 through 1995. Stubbs then was the head golf professional for the City of Anaheim’s two municipal courses, where he stayed nearly a decade before moving on to Vista Valley Country Club in 2005.
Stubbs, who joined GolfTEC earlier this year, lives in Temecula with his wife Tina and the youngest of his three sons Luc, 8.
The Southern California Section was established in 1924 and today is comprised of more than 1,700 golf professionals working at more than 500 facilities within the section. The SCPGA consists of six regional Chapters within a geographic area that stretches from San Luis Obispo to the Mexico border and from the Pacific Ocean to the Nevada and Arizona borders.
