Centennial, Colo. (Oct. 11, 2012) – Joe Assell, CEO, President, and co-founder of GolfTEC, the world leader in golf improvement, has been selected to receive the prestigious Bill Strausbaugh Award from the Colorado Section of the PGA of America.
The honor is presented annually to the Colorado PGA member who has shown outstanding integrity and commitment to mentoring PGA professionals, as well as making a significant impact on the careers of PGA professionals.
“This award is particularly special to me,” said Assell, who has been honored previously with the 1998 Colorado PGA Teacher of the Year, Colorado PGA Vic Kline Award and 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Rocky Mountain Region. “I come from a golf family and I admired the PGA professionals who mentored me, so I am happy that I can follow in their footsteps.”
One of the biggest impacts Assell has made on the golf profession is GolfTEC University (GTU), the world’s leading school for golf instruction. Required for every coach who is going to teach at a GolfTEC Improvement Center around the world, GTU was established in 1997 at GolfTEC headquarters in the Denver area. Since then, more than 1,200 Certified Personal Coaches have graduated – all with jobs waiting for them, teaching the most comprehensive and successful golf-instruction system in the world.
Overall, GolfTEC has given more than 3.5 million lessons at 160 improvement centers in North America. Not only has GolfTEC helped golfers shoot lower scores and have more fun on the golf course, the company employs more than 500 Certified Personal Coaches (more than 2 percent of all PGA professionals), who have won numerous awards for teaching excellence, including PGA Section Teacher of the Year, Golf Digest Top Teachers in the State, PGA Teacher of the Year, Best Golf Lesson, and more.
Founded in 1937, the Colorado Section is one of the 41 sections that comprise the regional entities of the PGA of America. More than 800 members and apprentices belong to the Colorado Section, which embraces the entire state, as well as Eastern Wyoming, and a small part of South Dakota, which totals approximately 250 golf facilities with PGA professionals.
