CEOs of Global 2000 companies are invited to compete in two-day golf tournament for charity hosted by Gary Player at the world-famous TPC Sawgrass course
FREMONT, Calif. – October 23, 2012 – iGATE, the first integrated technology and operations company providing Business Outcomes-based solutions, today announced that golf legend Gary Player will serve as co-host of the first annual iGATE CEO Cup charity golf tournament Jan. 12-13.
Player, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, will conduct a clinic for participating CEOs, showing them the form that earned him 165 tournament-wins over five decades. Player also will attend prize giving ceremony, pose for pictures and join the golfers for a private cocktail reception.
The iGATE CEO Cup, launched by iGATE in association with Forbes, is inviting CEOs of Global 2000 companies for a unique challenge. CEOs participating in the two-day event at the world-famous PLAYERS Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass, Florida will compete for a $100,000 cash prize to be donated to their favorite charities.
“This is truly a one-of-a-kind event. Charity has never been so exciting and I am glad that the best minds in business are competing in the world’s greatest game on one of the finest courses,” Player said. “We’re going to have a lot of fun at the iGATE CEO Cup. I’m really looking forward to share some tips with this group and see which golfers really have their games in shape.”
“This promises to be the thrill of a lifetime for any golfer who has watched and admired Gary Player over the years,” said Phaneesh Murthy, CEO, iGATE. “He stands as an inspiration to all of us with his many accomplishments, and we look forward to having him on board for our inaugural CEO tournament.”
Player is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history. The South African native has won 165 tournaments over five decades, including nine major championships on the regular tour, and nine major championships on the Senior Tour. He is one of only five golfers – and the only non-American golfer – to win each of the sport’s four major championships, known as a career Grand Slam.
Recognized around the globe as the Black Knight and the International Ambassador of Golf, Gary Player is also a renowned golf course architect with over 325 design projects on five continents. Black Knight International, the company founded by his son Marc Player, includes Gary Player Design, Player Real Estate, Black Knight Enterprises and The Player Foundation, which has a primary objective of promoting underprivileged education around the world. He has authored or co-written 36 golf books.
CEOs gathering for the two-day tournament at Sawgrass – home of the famous 17th hole, with its island green – will compete for trophies the first day for low individual score and the second day for low score for four-player team. CEOs from the select pool of companies can invite a C-level colleague to participate in the team competition.
