San Francisco, CA– The 2012 annual meeting for the California Golf Course Owners Association is scheduled for Tues. October 30 at the spectacular Half Moon Bay Golf Links (Half Moon Bay, CA). The meeting will attract course owners and operators as well as golf association leaders and industry suppliers from all regions in California.
Bradley S. Klein, Ph.D., architecture editor for Golfweek will be the keynote speaker at the CGCOA annual meeting. Klein’s presentation titled Golf- A Great Game Yet a Tough Business, will span a variety of topics that resonate with course owners and operators. He will provide a behind-the-scenes view of golf course design and renovation and will share insight on the golf business as it continues to reshape and re-form itself. Klein, who also oversees the national golf course rating system for Golfweek will allocate time to explain how the golf course rating system works, a topic of interest to golf course owners today.
“As a California golf course operator it is critical to keep on the pulse of industry trends, especially in today’s economic climate.” stated CGCOA President Steve Plummer, CGCS. “I am looking forward to Dr. Klein’s presentation and welcome his insight about our ever-changing industry.”
A former PGA Tour caddie and 2006 inductee into the International Caddie Hall of Fame, Klein holds a Ph.D. in political science and has written and lectured widely on golf design, the golf development industry, golf course operations and maintenance. He has published five books on golf architecture, including “Discovering Donald Ross,” winner of the USGA 2001 International Book Award. In recent years, Klein was a design consultant on Old Macdonald, the fourth course at Bandon Dunes Resort in Oregon. Years prior, he arduously led an effort resulting in the design and construction of a daily-fee municipal course (Wintonbury Hill GC) in his hometown of Bloomfield, CT.
According to CGCOA President Steve Plummer, CGCS, the chapter meeting chapter will cover a variety of topics critical to the golf industry -from legislative updates and advocacy to best practices in golf course operations and maintenance. Special time will be allocated to discuss a golf course owner’s role/responsibility in growing the game.
The CGCOA Annual Meeting is open to association members and prospective members from public, private, semi-private and resort facilities throughout California.
