Old American Grill, expanded golf shop highlight upgrades
(THE COLONY, Texas) – Old American Golf Club – a pure golf experience designed by Tripp Davis and PGA TOUR player Justin Leonard – has unveiled a new restaurant in its territorial-themed Carriage House, along with an expanded golf shop featuring a wide selection of top name brands.
The newly opened Old American Grill features fresh, local produce and meats sourced by the chef. The menu includes revolving items based on member and guest feedback and boasts innovative creations fusing Southwestern, Texas and Americana cuisine.
Inspired by the clubhouses from the ‘Golden Age’ of golf course architecture (1911-1937), The Carriage House blends territorial design and modern amenities to create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. The Old American Grill houses indoor and planned outdoor seating options including an atmospheric patio overlooking the golf course.
“We are eager to welcome members, guests and the community to our new restaurant,” says Mike McCabe, general manager. “Old American Grill is an extension of our vision for the golf course and community, and will carry the same standard of excellence and ingenuity.”
The Carriage House now sports an expanded retail golf shop including the latest golf apparel and equipment, and gear adorned with Old American’s signature feather logo.
“A true hangout for our golfers, with outstanding food, drink and merchandise,” adds McCabe, when asked to describe the new-look Carriage House.
Steadfastly committed to its Golden Age theme, developer / owner Matthews Southwest is reconstructing and refinishing a vintage barn from a Michigan farm to serve as the new golf cart storage facility. It is one of a handful of relics found at Old American, including the 19thcentury railroad bridge transplanted from the Red River connecting holes two and three.

About Old American Golf Club
Inspired by the ‘Golden Age’ of golf course architecture between 1911 and 1937, Old American’s natural contours, hazard styles, native grasses and green shapes were influenced by such masterpieces as Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links, Prairie Dunes and Crystal Downs.
Acclaimed architect Tripp Davis, an accomplished amateur player and former All-American at the University of Oklahoma and PGA TOUR/Ryder Cup star Justin Leonard, who played his college golf at the University of Texas, toured and played a handful of America’s classic Golden Age golf courses prior to starting the design process for Old American.
The result is a golf course that emphasizes strategy and shot-making and flows with a natural rhythm from first tee to 18thgreen. Old American features six sets of tees, ranging from the 5215-yard forward markers to the 7174-yard “Leonard” tournament tees. Davis and Leonard conceived the routing and layout with both medal and match play in mind, as golfers are required to hold “steady to par” through a number of holes, but enticed to gamble on birdie or better during select stretches of the course.
