Stafford, Va. – John Francisco, PGA Director of Instruction at Piney Branch Golf & Country Club in Upperco, Md. won the 2012 MAPGA Senior Player of the Year title. This is Francisco’s first Player of the Year (POY) honor with the MAPGA, which places him in the company of MAPGA notables like Larry Ringer, PGA; and Bob Bilbo, PGA. In 2011, Francisco finished third in the Senior Player of the Year race behind Tim White, PGA of Lake Chesdin Golf Club and Bud Lintelman, PGA of Westpark Golf Club.
Francisco’s 2012 tournament schedule consisted of 14 tournaments; nine of which were MAPGA Senior Player of the Year events. To jump start his season, Francisco won the Senior division at the MAPGA’s Northern Chapter Championship which earned him 200 POY points. Then in late August Francisco took the MAPGA Senior Championship title. However, in his last event at the Maryland Senior Open, Francisco finished as the low professional giving him the necessary points boost to clinch MAPGA Senior Player of the Year over fellow PGA Professional Lintelman.
“Winning this title is a great honor,” says Francisco. “I really credit the Section sponsors and MAPGA staff for making these playing opportunities possible; without their efforts, we would not have such good events.”
