Stafford, Va. – Chip Sullivan, PGA Director of Golf at Hanging Rock Country Club in Salem, Va. won the 2012 MAPGA Player of the Year title. This is Sullivan’s fourth Player of the Year (POY) honor with the MAPGA since becoming a member of the Middle Atlantic PGA in 1993 (1996, 2005, 2006, 2012).
Sullivan’s 2012 tournament season had a slow start, but really got going in June when he won the professional division of the Pro-Scratch at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club. Immediately following this event, Sullivan traveled to Seaside, California where he played in the 45th PGA Professional National Championship on an exemption as he won this same event in 2007 at Sunriver Resort in Bend, Ore. Once Sullivan returned from California, he continued to play consistently earning POY points in the State Open of Virginia, the MAPGA Tournament of Champions and the MAPGA Head Professional Championship.
At the 2012 MAPGA Section Professional Championship, Sullivan finished just behind Champion and fellow PGA Professional Faber Jamerson of Appomattox, Va. This second place finish in the MAPGA’s biggest event of the season earned Sullivan 300 POY points and gave him a substantial lead to solidify his first place finish in the Player of the Year race.
“I’m very fortunate to be in a position where the members of my club support me playing in professional events,” says Sullivan of the members at Hanging Rock CC. “I love to compete and the Middle Atlantic PGA offers so many great opportunities for me to play against some of the top PGA Professionals in the country.”
