HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Nov. 13, 2012 – Commemorating 125 years of golf in the United States, The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club has planned a week-long celebration next June, with a series of special golf events leading up to its Gala Anniversary Dinner Dance at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, on Saturday evening, June 8.
Continuing its legacy of charitable involvement, Saint Andrew’s has designated The First Tee of Metropolitan New York and the Folds Of Honor Foundation as the two key beneficiaries of the celebration, which is expected to attract a variety of distinguished guests, from renowned golf champions and current tour pros to celebrities and sports legends.
“Our 125th anniversary gives us an opportunity to celebrate this unique milestone while giving back to the broader golf community to which Saint Andrew’s belongs,” said George Miller, President of The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club. “We have structured the program to include a charitable element, a focus on investing in future generations of golfers, which we believe endows it with an even greater purpose and wider significance.”
The schedule for the Saint Andrew’s Golf Club 125th Anniversary Program:
Tuesday, June 4, 2013: Festivities commence with the Folds Of Honor Golf Tournament. The pro-am is being organized in cooperation with the Folds Of Honor Foundation, which supports the families of members of the military who have been killed or disabled in serving their country. The field will include a number of military veterans, along with select professionals from the Metropolitan New York PGA. Play will be 18 holes at SAGC.
Wednesday, June 5, 2013: This day is dedicated to women golfers, with the 125th Anniversary Girls Golf and FORE! Themed around the history and growth of women in golf, specifically in the New York area, the pro-am is being coordinated with The First Tee and Met PGA, to promote their charitable programs that support the development of life skills and golf for young women. Play will be 18 holes at SAGC.
Friday, June 7, 2013: The 125th Anniversary Pro-Am is an invitation-only event for key supporters of the 125th Anniversary Program and club members, featuring a lineup of golfers from the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour. The pros will be paired with Saint Andrew’s Golf Club members and their guests, which will include representatives of The First Tee and select golf clubs and associations, along with golf celebrities and industry leaders. The day’s agenda includes a Legends Clinic, featuring one of the special guest pros, and a presentation by The First Tee. Play will be 18 holes at SAGC, followed by an Awards Dinner at the Clubhouse.
Saturday, June 8, 2013: The Gala Anniversary Dinner Dance at the Waldorf Astoria revisits the historic venue for the Club’s previous anniversary celebrations. This special evening, together with several golf events to be held earlier that week, will celebrate Saint Andrew’s storied past, while also helping to support the continued growth of the game and its positive values through support for The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. All of the net proceeds from this Gala and its associated events will be dedicated to this essential youth development organization that serves more than 5,000 young people in the metropolitan area.

As the oldest golf club in the United States (established in 1888) and a founding member of the United States Golf Association, The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club is rich in history and tradition.
The par 71 at Saint Andrew’s is a combination of classic golf course architecture, breathtaking views from dramatic elevation changes and impeccable conditioning. In 1983, Jack Nicklaus directed a restoration project to ensure Saint Andrew’s maintains its rightful place among the most respected golf courses in the game. Now a Jack Nicklaus signature course, Saint Andrew’s plays to 6,641 yards, with a slope of 147 and course rating of 73.9 from the championship tees.
Members of The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club are cognizant of their stewardship of the club’s place in golf history, and the significant role that Saint Andrew’s has played in fostering the birth and growth of golf in the United States.
Apart from the golf course, the remarkable Stanford White-designed clubhouse reflects the membership’s dedication to the preservation of that history. Filled with priceless memorabilia from the club’s past, a walk through the front doors is like entering a golf museum. Among the most treasured items are found in the John Reid Room, where on display is Reid’s original Red Jacket, which continues to serve as The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club’s Coat of Arms.
