Saguaro ranked #20 and Cholla ranked #46 in Golfweek’s Top 100 Resort Course Ranking for 2013
FORT McDOWELL, Ariz. – We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Saguaro and Cholla courses were both included in Golfweek’s Top 100 Resort Course ranking for 2013. The Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw-designed Saguaro was ranked #20, while the Scott Miller-designed Cholla course was ranked #46, respectively. The ranking was published in Golfweek’s Ultimate Guide to Golf Course Living and Great Escapes, which feature both the Top 100 Resort and Top 100 Residential course rankings for 2013.
Both courses are no stranger to this honor as this marks the sixth consecutive year that both courses were included in this Top 100 Resort Course ranking.
The ranking was determined by Golfweek rating panelists who rate courses on the basis of 10 criteria including but not limited to: routing, quality of shaping, overall land plan, variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s, tree and landscape management, conditioning and ecology and the walk in the park test – the degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on.
“It’s a tremendous honor to have both of the stunning Saguaro and Cholla courses ranked in this Top 100 ranking for the sixth consecutive rating year,” stated Ed Francese, with EFGolf. “It was also pleasing to see our original Cholla Course move up in the ranking four spots (from #50 in 2012 to #46). It’s a credit to the fine architects of these courses, but equally important are the We-Ko-Pa team members in both golf operations team and agronomy, who continue to deliver ‘Top 100’ experiences to our guests, each and every day.”
Located in Fort McDowell, Arizona, just minutes from Scottsdale, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is a resort golf facility that consists of the original Cholla course, designed by Scott Miller and the Saguaro course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Upon opening in 2001 the 7,225-yard, Par 72 Cholla course was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the 10 best new public courses in the world and quickly become recognized as the reference course for quintessential desert golf. The legendary design duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, completed the Saguaro course in 2005 featuring design elements not commonly found in the desert. The par 71 Saguaro is built for walking and has more in common with older, more traditional courses where greens are close to tees and the course follows the natural movement of the land. In addition to the two award winning golf courses, We-Ko-Pa boasts an expansive practice facility, a full-service clubhouse including restaurant, grill and Top 100 Golf Shop. We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and is operated by EFGolf and OB Sports Golf Management.
