CARLSBAD, Calif. (December 12, 2012) – Nippon Shaft in 2012 recorded more than 50 victories on professional golf tours worldwide, as the best players in the world increasingly chose to install in their irons steel shafts manufactured in Japan to unparalleled quality standards.
PGA TOUR players using Nippon Shaft products produced victories at the Sony Open, the Wyndham Championship, and the Children’s Miracle Network Classic while recording a multitude of top 25 finishes. In addition, the winner of the grueling six-round PGA TOUR qualifying tournament at PGA West also used Nippon Shaft steel shafts in his irons.
Meanwhile, on Sunday at the 2012 Masters, a loyal Nippon Shaft player shot 8-under 64 at Augusta National GC to tie the lowest final round score ever recorded at the prestigious tournament.
Nippon Shaft also won two senior major championships in 2012 – the U.S. Senior Open at Indianwood G& CC in Lake Orion, Mich. and the Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores GC in Benton Harbor, Mich. Nippon Shaft also earned three additional Senior European Tour wins, two European Tour wins, and a victory in a European Challenge Tour event.
The world’s best-known Spanish player used Nippon Shaft in his irons all season, including his victory at the Wyndham Championship and during all four matches as a member of the European Ryder Cup team. His 2-2 record at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago included a crucial victory in his Sunday singles match, which contributed significantly to his team’s dramatic comeback victory over the Americans.
Meanwhile, Nippon Shaft continued its dominance in women’s pro golf, recording victories on the LPGA Tour (15), the Japan LPGA Tour (25), and the Ladies European Tour (2).
“Nippon Shaft is honored and proud to have provided the equipment necessary for many of the world’s greatest golfers to play their best and achieve their goals against extremely challenging competition on tours all over the world,” said Hiro Fukuda, sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “These golfers understand that Nippon Shaft products provide the precise distance-control and ball flight they demand to compete day-in-and-day-out with their extremely talented group of peers,” Fukuda said.
The men’s tour winners utilized Nippon Shaft products developed specifically for their needs, including the new N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 steel shaft, which will be released formally after the PGA Merchandise Show in late January.
Other shafts utilized by the male pros were the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120, the MODUS3 ST Prototype, the MODUS3 ORA Prototype, the MODUS3 E11 Prototype, the N.S. PRO Prototype 2G18, and other MODUS3 Prototype shafts still in development.
On the women’s tours, the most popular shaft among the champions was the N.S. PRO 950GH, which has long been the lightweight standard on the LPGA Tour. Female champions also chose the lightweight N.S. PRO 850GH and the N.S. PRO V90 shafts.
One two-time Norwegian female winner won with the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120 steel shafts in her irons.
In recent years, Nippon Shaft has had a knowledgeable representative traveling weekly on the PGA TOUR to help develop new shafts for high-level players. By working closely with the world’s best players, Nippon Shaft seeks to develop premier products for the most demanding consumers, Fukuda said.
Nippon Shaft products are available either as stock or custom shafts in many of the world’s top iron brands. In addition, Nippon Shaft products are available through Shaftology – Nippon Shaft’s dedicated clubfitter network – and through the custom club departments of top club manufacturers.
Nippon Shaft manufactures all of its steel and graphite shafts in a state-of-the-art factory at its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. The company’s integrated production lines are strictly monitored and controlled with thorough checks conducted responsibly through the entire production process, Fukuda said. As a result, Nippon Shaft is able to control high product quality – from material selection to final testing.
Nippon Shaft has more than 200 professional victories worldwide. Based in Yokohama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia.
Nippon Shaft is a privately-held subsidiary of NHK Spring Co. LTD, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Carlsbad.
