PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (December 20, 2012) – The award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show has had its most successful year yet.
2012 proved to be a booming year for GolfTalk Live, with Host Tony Leodora capturing some of what the listeners would call the best interviews and traveling to some of the greatest locations in the show’s six year history.
As with previous years, GolfTalk Live started the year at the annual PGA Merchandise Show, broadcasting from Mystic Dunes Resort to bring Philadelphia area listeners all the updates from the showroom floor. The PGA Merchandise show set the stage for the rest of the year-adding to the show’s long list of contacts, sponsors, supporters and friends.
GolfTalk Live is a show with an interview format, and this year’s collection of interviewees did not disappoint the listeners. Interviews this year have included former and current PGA and LPGA stars, such as Nick Faldo, Justin Leonard, Annika Sorenstam, Webb Simpson, Paula Creamer, Ben Crenshaw, Jim Furyk, Ed Dougherty and Jay Sigel. Other interviews stretched over every facet of the golf and sports world. Some of the well-known personalities who stepped up to the GolfTalk Live microphone included former NFL quarterback and broadcaster Ron Jaworski, Mike Furyk, the father of PGA star Jim Furyk, Phillies announcer Chris Wheeler, Gary (Sarge) Matthews, Eagles announcer Merrill Reese, TaylorMade president Mark King and teaching guru Hank Haney.
Turning to travel–Leodora has taken the show many places over the years and this year was no different. Over the past year GolfTalk live has broadcast from many local courses and venues including the Poconos, Atlantic City golf courses and a number of local restaurants and club houses. Traveling a bit farther the show also broadcast from a number of venues in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina, Jamaica and Hawaii.
“Bringing the excitement of golf travel to our listeners is one of the great parts of my job,” said Leodora. “And it’s not just because I get to work in beautiful, sunny, warm climates. Our listeners constantly ask about these golf destinations. Some are planning to visit there soon. Others will never get there and just want to experience them vicariously through our show.”
This year GolfTalk Live has also brought on many new sponsors to add to the already impressive list of businesses that support the show. New sponsors in 2012 included Horsham Family Golf Center and the Rick Flagler Golf Academy located in Horsham, Iberostar Resorts and First & Goal Sports, a sports memorabilia store located in Media.
“We have a great group of sponsors,” said Leodora. “Many have been with us since the beginning of the show. New ones come aboard, but only after an opening in the sponsor lineup occurs. We are very lucky and have been sold out most of the time since the beginning of the show.
GolfTalk Live airs 52 weeks a year from 7 to 8 a.m. each Saturday on flagship station WNTP 990-AM in Philadelphia, as well as from 3 to 4 p.m. on WOND 1400-AM in South Jersey. Syndication of the show took place in June and a number of new affiliates will be coming on board in 2013.
