Sponsored by The Tilted Kilt, hospitality pavilion alongside 17th green offers fans stunning, exciting views of a pivotal, picturesque hole
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Picture an innocent-looking, yet beautiful, golf hole in the desert with hundreds of fans watching and commenting on every shot. Now, give those fans their own hospitality villa with a bird’s-eye view of the green — and the mountainside behind it — and you have the hottest new place to watch the PGA TOUR.
The Bird’s Nest in Phoenix? No, it’s The Club at 17 presented by The Tilted Kilt at the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST. The Club at 17 offers fans of the Humana Challenge in partnership with the William J. Clinton Foundation a high-energy, sports bar-like atmosphere alongside one of the signature holes of the Humana Challenge.
Tickets for the lively atmosphere of The Club at 17 are in short supply and expected to sell out quickly. Only 500 four-day tickets (good for all tournament rounds on Thursday, Jan. 17 – Sunday, Jan. 20) are available at $195 each or $375 for a two-pack. Special packages of five tickets are available for $900.
Tickets to The Club at 17 are available immediately online only at www.humanachallenge.com. All The Club at 17 tickets include preferred parking, access to an open-aired hospitality villa overlooking the view of the 17th green and big-screen televisions, a full menu of food items for purchase, a cash bar and complimentary daily pairings sheets. The tickets also provide grounds access to PGA WEST and La Quinta Country Club during the full week of the Humana Challenge.
Adding to The Club at 17’s atmosphere as the place to see and be seen during tournament week, the renowned, attractive Kilt Girls® will be on hand, serving food and beverages. In addition, The Tilted Kilt will make a charitable donation for every birdie carded on No. 17.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our patrons to become part of a new tradition and an exclusive club,” Humana Challenge Executive Director and CEO Bob Marra said. “The Club at 17 is designed for anyone who wants to be a part of the action at the tournament this year, whether they’re avid golf fans or just looking to take in the spectacular view and revelry. The Club at 17 is really a good deal, too, and provides one of the best vantage points for watching the tournament.”
It does indeed. The 17th hole at the Palmer Private Course is 110 yards of picturesque and tournament-turning beauty. With its stage-like, tiered tee boxes perched high above the long narrow green and the mountainside providing a backdrop, No. 17 is not only one of the most beautiful holes in the event, but it is often the most pivotal.
With Bighorn sheep often seen frolicking in their own gallery along the mountainside bordering the right side of the hole, many a player has come to No. 17 on Sunday afternoon needing merely a par to stay in the hunt – yet walked away with a crippling, title-dashing bogey.
The Humana Challenge, which continues to honor and celebrate the legacy of Bob Hope, was named 2012 Sports Event of the Year by Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily, and received the PGA TOUR’s “Best On-Site Staging” award in 2012 at December’s PGA TOUR Tournament Meetings.
The 2013 Humana Challenge has received playing commitments from four-time major championship winner Phil Mickelson, reigning FedExCup champion and World No. 10 Brandt Snedeker, and defending Humana Challenge champion Mark Wilson.
The Humana Challenge is a four-round, 72-hole event featuring 156 PGA TOUR professionals and 156 amateurs, including celebrities. The first three rounds of the four-day tournament will be played in a pro-am format, with the pro-am teams consisting of one professional and one amateur playing in groups of four. The tournament’s purse ($5.6 million) and winner’s check ($1.008 million) are tied for the largest in event history.
Tournament and volunteer information, and registration for the Jan. 14 Couples Challenge Pro-Am and Jan. 16 Bob Hope Legacy Pro-Am is available at www.HumanaChallenge.com. Fans can connect to the tournament’s sites on Facebook (www.facebook.com/HumanaChallenge) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/HumanaChallenge/@HumanaChallenge).
During the past 53 years, the Humana Challenge has generated more than $52 million in donations to charities in the Coachella Valley, primarily the Eisenhower Medical Center. The 2012 Humana Challenge announced record donations of nearly $2.1 million to local organizations.
