BELLINGHAM, Washington – The No. 1 composite iron shafts in golf, SteelFiber shafts by Aerotech Golf continued to heat up the Aloha State this weekend, winning second-place and a fifth-place tie at the Sony Open. The two Top Five money positions marks four Top 10s (three in Top Five) in two weeks for the innovative composite iron shafts.
Playing SteelFiber shafts in his Titleist irons, the Sony’s runner-up opened his 2013 season with a strong showing and shot a 21-under 259 (64-66-66-63). It was the South African’s second second-place finish in his last six events.
“This is the second straight year we’ve had a second-place finish at the Sony Open, and it’s the strongest two-week start on the PGA TOUR in our company’s history. SteelFiber shafts provide the power of graphite and the stability of steel and we have more players on the PGA Tour using Aerotech shafts than ever before. We’re very excited to see SteelFiber’s high level of performance on TOUR this season,” said Aerotech Golf President Chris Hilleary.
In 2012, SteelFiber shafts were the No. 1 iron composite shaft on the PGA TOUR for the third consecutive year. In addition to their second-straight Ryder Cup appearance, SteelFiber shafts won the 2012 FedExCup title, the TOUR Championship, The Players Championship and the Farmers Insurance Open and collected 21 Top 10 finishes on the PGA and Champions Tours. In 2011, two of the Top Eight players in the final FedExCup standings played SteelFiber shafts and SteelFiber delivered two Top Three finishes in the PGA TOUR PlayOffs.
SteelFiber shafts provide superior performance through innovative composite engineering that combines a high-modulus graphite core with 59 miles of steel fiber lacing the shaft surface. While the shaft’s graphite core provides vibration dampening, increased clubhead speed and maximum distance, the steel fibers produce optimum weighting for a solid feel at impact and add stability and control for pinpoint accuracy. Originally developed for irons the SteelFiber technology now enhances the performance of hybrids, fairway woods and drivers.
Aerotech Golf specializes in innovative composite technology, and has supplied shafts to such renowned golf club manufactures as Titleist, Nike Golf, Bridgestone Golf, Cleveland Golf, Adams Golf, Miura, Srixon, Lynx, KZG, Nakashima, Scratch Golf, Zevo and Pure Spin among many others.
