ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 15, 2013) – GolfNow’s Let’s Play 9 program, which is aimed at bringing time-crunched golfers to the course, generated 225,621 nine-hole rounds and $3.6 million in revenues for course operators in 2012.
In the program’s second year, nine-hole rounds increased 59 percent and revenues increased 61 percent for 2,100 participating courses.
“We know that golf course operators lose thousands of players, rounds and dollars every day because some people don’t have time for a traditional 18-hole round,” said Jeff Foster, senior vice president, New Media Sales for Golf Channel. “Let’s Play 9 shows that nine-hole rounds appeal to a large segment of golfers and can represent a significant revenue opportunity for operators.”
Foster said the program is encouraging families and beginners to play more, as well as bringing golfers back to the course who have left the game because of time constraints.
Gordon Lakomy, director of operations at Diablo Hills in Walnut Creek, Calif., said, “Nine-hole rounds early in the day and late in the afternoon work well for a lot of our customers. The program has brought us new players, some of whom are regulars now.”
The Let’s Play 9 promotion is supported by online advertising to GolfNow’s more than 1 million registered users.
