CENTREVILLE, MI (January 16, 2013)- Andy Mears, a PGA professional with a long and impressive resume in the golf industry, has been named President and COO at Island Hills GC. Island Hills GC is a daily fee course and developing golf resort that sits on the western edge of 1,000 acre Lake Templene.

Mears comes to Island Hills GC with experience in many phases of the golf industry. After working his way up through the ranks, he operated a private country club for years as a PGA head professional. He then worked in the golf industry as an executive in a large golf company. He also worked in the marketing phases of a golf membership company as well as marketing at a golf resort.

He arrives at Island Hills with the direction of expanding the daily fee course to a regional golf resort.

“Island Hills has a strong reputation as a very good golf course that is open to the public and we will continue to build strong community relations, create new events and welcome golfers for daily fee play,” explains Mears. “The next step is to transform Island Hills into a resort destination, through the promotion of the golf cottages. We feel that the facility has a lot of potential.”

Island Hills, designed by acclaimed golf course architect Ray Hearn, opened in 1999. The property was purchased by Bob Griffioen in 2009 and immediately underwent extensive renovations.

Currently, three golf cottages are being built, providing overnight accommodations for guests at Island Hills. One of the cottages contains five bedrooms, while the other two cottages are four bedroom. Each has large bedrooms, spacious living space, a meeting or recreation room in the lower level and fully appointed amenities — making them ideal for small golf groups or golf couples. All three cottages are being built on a picturesque site, with a beautiful vista of the signature par 3, 17th hole.
