Andy Hilts, GolfTEC vice president of instruction and education, will discuss two key elements to transition from “teacher” to “coach”
Centennial, Colo. (Jan 21, 2013) – GolfTEC-the undisputed leader in high-tech golf instruction, with a 95% success rate among its students-will be sharing some of its secrets with golf teachers from around the world at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit in Orlando, Florida this week.
Andy Hilts, Vice President of Instruction and Education for GolfTEC, will address PGA golf professionals at the bi-annual Summit, held January 21-22 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando as part of the run-up to the PGA Merchandise Show.
The focus of Hilts’ talk will be the difference between teaching, which is what most golf pros do, and coaching, which is the basis of all GolfTEC instruction. According to Hilts, coaching primarily means developing a step-by-step plan to achieve a student’s long-term goals.
“It’s not just about the full swing,” Hilts explains, “it’s total game improvement. Not just a lesson, not even three, five, or ten lessons. It can take years to make significant changes to a golfer’s game, and that’s what we offer.”
“For the first time, we want to share that philosophy with the rest of the industry as a way of helping teachers learn to do more coaching. Just as important, we want to help grow the game because we know that people who play better play more.”
Hilts will also talk about what GolfTEC has learned about developing clients for the long term.
“I want to share with my fellow golf professionals what we’ve learned from giving nearly 4 million lessons in the last 17 years. I’ve trained more than 1,000 of our coaches and part of that training is teaching how to sell. In our experience, many golf pros lack the knowledge of how to sell long-term coaching to a very needy clientele.
“That’s what we do at GolfTEC every day, and I’m thrilled to be able to spread what we’ve learned to the rest of our industry.”
