CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 23, 2013) – The nominees for the NGCOA’s Course of the Year Award include three public courses and the ultra-private Donald Trump-owned Trump National, all from golf’s modern era.

The award recognizes member-owned courses that excel in four categories: course quality, ownership and management, contributions to the community and contribution to the game. The Course of the Year winner, which will be announced on Feb. 6 at the NGCOA Annual Conference in San Diego, will come from a group of modern-era courses that are distinguished in each area.

Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Calif., which opened in 2000, winds through the jagged terrain of Riverside’s historic Jensen Quarry, giving golfers some captivating scenery to go along with a resort-like experience at the family-owned facility.

Redstone Golf Club (Tournament Course) in Humble, Texas, is the home of the PGA Tour’s Shell Houston Open and annually draws the praise of tour pros for its excellent conditioning. Redstone has helped the tournament generate approximately $25 million for charity since it began hosting the event. When the pros aren’t in town, the course, which opened in 2006, welcomes public play.

Despite its rural surroundings, golfers make the pilgrimage to Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan., to play replicas of some of golf’s most famous holes, including the Road Hole at St. Andrews and the Redan hole at North Berwick, Scotland. Staff members at the course that opened in 2006 – from the golf shop to the maintenance crew – are trained to offer outstanding customer service with the goal of exceeding expectations.

The Old Course at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., opened in 2004, four years before the New Course, which opened in 2008. Both courses offer championship conditioning on a daily basis for some of New York’s most famous politicians and sports stars as well as families. In addition to a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, Trump National offers generous support of local charitable foundations and organizations.

The NGCOA also will recognize winners of the Award of Merit for long-term contributions to the game, the Jemsek Award for Golf Course Excellence, the Don Rossi Award for significant contributions to the NGCOA, the Champion Award for service to course owners at the state level, the Player Development Award for success in attracting new players to the game and the Paul Porter Award for commitment, service and leadership to a chapter or international affiliate.

The NGCOA’s Annual Conference is the golf industry’s largest gathering of owners and operators of daily fee, private, resort and municipal courses. The conference, which will be held Feb. 3-8, offers educational and networking opportunities and guest speakers. NGCOA members and non-members can register for the conference at www.ngcoa.org/conference.

The conference occurs in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show, Feb. 6-7, at the San Diego Convention Center. The show, which is presented by the NGCOA and GCSAA, showcases the golf industry’s latest products and services throughout an expansive exhibit area and offers a wide range of educational opportunities.
