What will become the next great rivalry in the sport of golf? To hear some golf enthusiasts and pundits tell it, the answer is clear: Two of the game’s leading players, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, have already begun a head-to-head showdown that will surely provide some drama and some fireworks for the year to come. Many observers will have their favorite player. Although, on the fifth hole, Woods tee shot missed the fairway and ended up in a plug lie. After consulting with his playing partner Woods thought he could get relief without a penalty. Woods himself expressed pride in his short game calling it solid. The game in Abu Dhabi suggested that his skills with the golf wedge are rebounding.
Woods was also dismissive of the perceived rivalry between himself and McIlroy, noting that such legacies tend to take years to develop.
