Two strategic and scenic layouts designed by Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw and Tom Doak debut on formerly-mined land in Polk County, Fla.
Streamsong, Fla. – Jan. 25, 2013 – Streamsong® Resort, a development of The Mosaic
Company, has announced that its Streamsong® Red and Streamsong® Blue golf courses and
golf clubhouse are officially open to the public.
Streamsong Resort is being built on approximately 16,000 acres of former phosphate mining
land, including the extraordinarily unique terrain where Coore & Crenshaw and Renaissance
Golf Design (Tom Doak) leveraged their visionary talents to create two unparalleled, intersecting
golf courses unlike any other in the state of Florida. Streamsong is the first venue in the world
where these renowned architects have collaborated to design 36 holes, and only the third
containing layouts from both design firms.
“Streamsong is a powerful site, and Mosaic is excited to introduce this venue to the world’s golf
community as a world-class model for economic and environmental sustainability,” said Rich
Mack, Mosaic’s executive vice president and general counsel. “We are honored by the reception
Streamsong has received. With the opening of the main lodge and other nature-based
amenities later this year, we will have created more than 200 permanent jobs and a very
unexpected, but special golf, conference and luxury resort destination.”
Streamsong Red, designed by Coore & Crenshaw (Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw), was recently
named “Best New U.S. Course You Can Play” by GOLF Magazine. The par-72 course plays to
7,148 yards, features striking landforms, large lakes and rolling terrain.
Streamsong Blue, designed by Renaissance Golf Design (Tom Doak), received Honorable
Mention as the “Best New U.S. Course You Can Play” by GOLF Magazine. The par-72 course
plays to 7,164 yards, features wide fairways, massive bunkers and extreme elevation changes.
Both courses feature MiniVerde™ Ultra Dwarf Bermudagrass on greens with 419 bermudagrass
on fairways and tees. Walking is encouraged with caddies available – golf cars are also
available.
“This property has some of the most unusual, interesting and dramatic land forms we have ever
encountered,” said Coore. “The landscape is different than anything we’ve worked with before.”
“The land at Streamsong was naturally conducive to uncovering great golf holes,” added
Crenshaw.
“This is such a good piece of land for golf,” said Doak. “The variety of contours created by the
mining process allowed us to create a layout unlike any other.”
The golf clubhouse, designed by Alfonso Architects, features 12 guest rooms (designed to
accommodate 16 guests); 4,500 square-feet of meeting space, a steakhouse with private
dining, lounge and golf shop.
Online tee-times and stay and play packages are now available to the general public via
www.streamsongresort.com. The online service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
and offers tee times on both Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue.
The main lodge, opening in fall 2013, will include 216 luxury guest rooms, a conference center,
full-service spa, lakeside pool, casual and fine dining, hiking and birding trails, tennis, guided
bass fishing and a sporting clays range.
KemperSports is responsible for management of Streamsong’s golf operations, with Scott
Wilson serving as Director of Golf. Interstate Hotels & Resorts has overall management
responsibility for the resort, with Mike Speicher serving as General Manager.
