Thor Guard Announces ThorMobile; Lightning Prediction Data Now Accessible From Mobile Devices

SUNRISE, Fla. (Feb. 5, 2013) – Thor Guard, the leader in lightning prediction and warning systems for golf courses, announced that its lightning prediction data, along with radar and National Weather Service warnings, is now accessible from mobile devices. ThorMobile enables golf course superintendents, professionals, staff and club members to access information when severe weather threatens from anywhere on the course rather than being limited to a desktop computer in their office.

“Superintendents can have Thor Guard lightning prediction data, local NWS radar and local NWS severe thunderstorm, tornado, flood and coastal warnings delivered right to their hand, even if the Thor Guard system is located in a closet off the pro-shop,” said Robert Dugan, president of Thor Guard. “Course management also has the option of making this data available to other staff and club members.”

Prior to the ThorMobile software enhancement, remote access to Thor Guard lightning prediction data was limited to the company’s windows-based desktop weather product. ThorMobile is web-based and requires only that users go to a URL address to view Thor Guard data, local radar and local NWS warnings.

“The customer is essentially hosting the platform on a webserver, so the data can be accessed by whomever needs it, at any time, from any location and through any mobile device with an Internet connection,” Dugan said.

ThorMobile has been added to the company’s ThorPCX software base, which manages Thor Guard data and provides email and text notification. ThorPCX also includes Weather Desktop; and ThorWeb, which allows a customer to display real-time Thor Guard data on a webpage.
