Weekend ‘To Do’ List: Go To Golf Show, Sink Putt And Win $10,000

(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Whether or not you use a long, short, or anchored putter makes no difference at the Odawa Casino $10,000 Long Putt Contest to be held at this weekend’s 25th West Michigan Golf Show. The important thing is to sink the putt! A long time and popular tradition at the golf show held at DeVos Place, the contest will test the putting skills of winter-weary golfers all weekend.

Along with the chance to win some great prizes including $10,000 if someone sinks the final 50-foot putt each day, contestants also raise money for a worthy cause. This year’s charity recipient is Racing Awareness for the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

Bill Schueller of Golf Core Inc. has coordinated the putting contest for 24 years and he’s an expert at making sure patrons have fun at the show. “I love how the putting contest has become a fun couples’ and family event,” said Schueller. He says it only costs $3 to enter the contest and if you sink a 15-foot, straight putt, one automatically qualifies for the finals each day. “We usually average 45-50 people making the finals each day and we whittle it down to two putters,” said Schueller. “The last putt each day at 50-foot is for $10,000 but if the person misses, he or she still receives a nice getaway package to Odawa Casino.”

Although there’s never been a big winner at the golf show, Schueller says he’s had six to eight winners at area golf courses held in conjunction with an outing. “Some day it will happen at the West Michigan Golf Show. It’s just a matter of time.”

The presenting sponsor of the $10,000 Long Putt Contest is Odawa Casino, the official gaming destination of the West Michigan Golf Show. Located in Petoskey and owned and operated by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, Odawa Casino is a 140 million dollar complex of nearly three hundred thousand square feet which includes fifty thousand square feet of gaming space. Odawa Casino also boasts a AAA three-diamond hotel located only minutes away and with free shuttle service, providing 127 rooms and ten suites. For more information, visit www.odawacasino.com

Held continuously since 1989, the West Michigan Golf Show will attract thousands of Michigan golfers to hundreds of exhibits and will feature clinics, junior golf instruction, swing analyzers and unbeatable golf shopping opportunities. As always, several charities will benefit from their involvement with the show. Sponsors include: Treetops Resort, Pfeiffer Lincoln, Odawa Casino Resort, Swan Lake Resort, Golf Association of Michigan, Boyne USA and the Michigan PGA.

Produced by ShowSpan Inc. and held at DeVos Place, the West Michigan Golf Show’s hours are 4:00 pm-9:00 pm, Friday; 10:00 am-7:00 pm, Saturday; and 10:00 am-5:00 pm, Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-14, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets will be available at the door as well as online at www.westmichigangolfshow.com
