CARLSBAD, Calif. (February 18, 2013) – Nippon Shaft’s new N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 steel shafts helped force a sudden death playoff Sunday at the Northern Trust Open near Los Angeles.
The 28-year-old Arizona native who used the recently-brought-to-market shafts in his Cleveland irons led the field in greens in regulation (57 of 72) and shot 11-under par on rounds of 67-71-68-67–273 over 72 holes, tying one other player in the field. He missed his par putt on the devilish 310-yard par 4 10th to fall on the second playoff hole. He earned $712,800 for Sunday’s spectacular play, his biggest check of the year.
Last year, the same player wielded a prototype of the Tour 130 shafts in his irons when he won the 2012 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic at the Disney resort in Orlando.
“Nippon Shaft is very proud to have played a role in such an outstanding week of golf,” said Hiro Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “His performance this week showed that his victory in Orlando late last season is very likely to be replicated soon.”
The N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 went on sale to the public on Feb. 1 after Nippon Shaft experts spent years traveling with the PGA TOUR getting player feedback and input during the shaft’s development phase.
Nippon Shaft products are available either as stock or custom shafts in many of the world’s top iron brands.
In addition, Nippon Shaft products are available through Shaftology – Nippon Shaft’s dedicated clubfitter network – and through the custom club departments of top club manufacturers.
Nippon Shaft manufactures all of its steel and graphite shafts in a state-of-the-art factory in Komagane, Japan. The company’s integrated production lines are strictly monitored and controlled with thorough checks conducted responsibly through the entire production process, Fukuda said. As a result, Nippon Shaft is able to control high product quality – from material selection to final testing.
Nippon Shaft has more than 100 professional victories worldwide. Based in Yokohama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia, where it controls 80 percent of the golf shaft market.
Nippon Shaft is a privately-held subsidiary of NHK Spring Co. LTD, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Carlsbad.
