PGA Tour star Lee Westwood to tee off 1st annual Ping City Putting Challenge on Tuesday, February 26, at 5:30 p.m.; 2013 grassroots consumer retail tour features club matching, performance fitting, equipment demos, prizes and much more
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla., February 25, 2013…Edwin Watts Golf and PING are teaming-up to find the best amateur putter in the Palm Beach area. In conjunction with the Company’s popular TGIF TOUR™, Edwin Watts Golf Shops, LLC, (EWGS), one of the world’s largest specialty golf retailers, will debut the PING City Putting Challenge as the main attraction of the week-long schedule of activities Tuesday through Saturday, February 26 – March 2, at the Palm Beach Gardens store, located at 3889 Northlake Blvd. PGA TOUR Star and PING Staff Player Lee Westwood will be on-site Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to meet and greet customers, showcase his putting accuracy and kick-off the search for the area’s best putter.
Amateur golfers of all ages are invited to the Palm Beach Gardens store to test their putting skills against other amateur golfers in the area, and see how their stroke compares with Mr. Westwood’s. The PING Fitting Van will also be on-site Tuesday, February 26, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m., custom fitting golfers with the new PING G25 Series clubs.
Qualifying times for the PING City Putting Challenge will take place Tuesday, February 26, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., and Wednesday, February 27 – Friday, March 1, from 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. The finals will take place Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m. The first 115 participants will receive an iPING Cradle; 10 finalists will receive an iPING Cradle, PING Towel and a signed Lee Westwood photo; and the winner of the PING City Putting Challenge at Edwin Watts Golf will win a custom PING Scottsdale TR Putter, and be crowned Palm Beach’s “Best Putter!”
Each participant will have five putts at a target using the new Scottsdale TR Putter and the iPING app. The app will analyze the putts and provide a consistency handicap score based on three criteria (stroke type, impact angle, tempo). The top 10 qualifiers, according to the consistency score, will advance to the finals on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m. The finalist who makes the most consecutive putts will be the winner.
“The PING City Putting Challenge is an exciting addition to the line-up of activities planned for the 2013 TGIF TOUR,” said John Watson, CEO, Edwin Watts Golf Shops. “Putting is an area where golfers can save strokes if they are armed with the proper equipment, thus, it was important for us to create an event that not only adds a new dynamic to the TGIF TOUR, but also promotes the true value of being properly fit for a putter.”
Additionally, throughout the TGIF Tour event, representatives from Adams Golf, Axis One Putters, Back Nine, Mizuno, Callaway and Nike will be on-site. Golfers will also have the opportunity to demo new products, experience custom fittings and register to win prizes each day, including an Adams Speedline IS Hybrid, Nike Covert Driver, and tickets to the Honda Classic.
