BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (March 5, 2013) – Steve Whidden, of Sarasota, Fla., has completed the Basic Certification Program and is now a golf instructor for “The IMPACT ZONE™ Training System by Impact Zone Golf,” an innovative approach to golf instruction created by acclaimed PGA Tour winner and popular television golf analyst Bobby Clampett.
Whidden, a Master PGA Professional in Instruction and Director of Instruction at Rosedale Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, Fla., is one of a growing list of golf professionals across the United States who now are learning and teaching the system, based on Clampett’s book, “The Impact Zone” (St. Martin’s Press, 2007).
“We are pleased to have Steve as the newest member of our Impact Zone Golf staff of certified professionals,” Clampett said, “joining our mission to revolutionize the way the game is taught and learned.”
“The Impact Zone Training System” completely changes the way golfers and instructors perceive and interpret each golfer’s swing. The system challenges the widely accepted theory of golf instruction that is too concerned with a golfer’s swing style, while overlooking its results and effectiveness of impact. “Impact-based” instruction puts the emphasis on creating proper impact, leading to consistently good shots and lower scores.
“Through my 20 years of teaching, I always felt there are many ways to swing the golf club, but only one way to contact the ball,” said Whidden, the North Florida PGA Section, Southwest Chapter’s 2012 and 2010 Teacher of the Year and winner of the chapter’s 2012 Horton Smith award (for providing education to golf instructors). “There are laws, or dynamics, that must happen to hit a golf ball solidly.”
Whidden is a graduate of Allegheny College, where he was a four-year letterman in golf before entering the PGA. Now owner of the Steve Whidden Golf Academy, he has worked and taught at prestigious golf clubs such as The Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo; The Breakers in Palm Beach; Quail West Golf and Country Club in Naples; Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco; The Roland Stafford Golf School in Clymer, N.Y.; and University Park Country Club, before joining Rosedale Golf and Country Club in the summer of 2009.
