New Partnership Underscores OMEGA’s Continued Commitment to the Sport of Golf
March 19, 2013 – OMEGA announced today that Stacy Lewis, the top-ranked player in the world and current leader on the 2013 LPGA money list, has joined the brand’s impressive roster of ambassadors. Lewis won the 2013 HSBC Women’s Champions in February and, most recently, the 2013 RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup. With Sunday’s comeback win in Arizona, Lewis jumped from third to first in the world rankings, marking a true career milestone.
OMEGA’s new relationship with Lewis – the winner of seven LPGA titles including one major – furthers the brand’s growing golf portfolio and highlights the Swiss watchmaker’s continued investment in the sport of golf.
In 2012, Lewis earned Player of the Year honors following a four-win season. She posted 15 additional top-10 finishes, including three runner-up placements and led the LPGA in birdies, eagles and rounds in the 60s. The 28-year-old, who was born in Toledo, Ohio and grew up near Houston, Texas, was diagnosed with scoliosis at a young age and underwent a spinal fusion operation just before college and plays golf with a titanium rod and five screws in her back. “I am honored to join the OMEGA family,” said Lewis. “This is such an exciting time in my career and I am proud to represent a brand that showcases determination, elegance and power – all things that I value both on and off the course.”
OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart said, “We are thrilled to welcome Stacy Lewis to the OMEGA family, where she joins a great group of some of the top players from the world of golf. Her recent surge to the top of the women’s ranking makes her an outstanding role model for professional golfers worldwide.”
ABOUT OMEGA
Founded in 1848, the brand has built its reputation on innovative watchmaking and unparalleled performance in accuracy trials. OMEGA produced the only wristwatch ever to be certified a marine chronometer in 1932 and its Speedmaster watches were worn on the moon in all six lunar missions.
OMEGA has long supported the sport of golf internationally, serving as title sponsor of the European Masters, the Dubai Ladies Masters and the Dubai Desert Classic. In July 2011, OMEGA announced its partnership with The PGA of America and its role as Official Timekeeper through 2016. The agreement represented a major breakthrough for OMEGA in the world of golf, giving the brand responsibility for the on-course venue timekeeping at all PGA of America events, including the PGA Championship – one of golf’s four majors – and the Ryder Cup when it is contested in the United States.
In 2009, OMEGA welcomed the IOC’s announcement that golf would return to the Olympic Games following an absence of well over a century. It will be part of the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, where the brand will serve as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games for the 27th time.
