(HARRIS, Mich.) -Sweetgrass Golf Club, three-time host of the LPGA’s developmental tour, has been named a Best-in-State course in Golfweek Magazine’s annual course rankings.
Situated in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the Paul Albanese design has garnered a top-20 spot on the publication’s “Best Courses You Can Play” list since 2010. It was recognized for excellent conditioning, variety of holes and routing, among other attributes.
“Golf groups return to Sweetgrass because it’s playable, affordable and fun,” says General Manager Tom McChesney. “Its unique features make it challenging for professional golfers and amateurs alike.”
Among those assets are Sweetgrass’ island green on the 15th hole, a severely sloping Biarritz green on the par-4 12th, and a large shared putting surface connecting its ninth and 18th holes. A series of historic iron bridges dot the parkland-style landscape where water comes into play.
The course has released spring stay-and-play golf deals starting at $85 for a round and room, available from the anticipated late-April opening until June 6. Golfers have access to the popular casino with table games and slots, five restaurants and a wealth of resort amenities.
The LPGA Symetra Tour returns to Sweetgrass for the Island Resort Championship June 28-30, 2013, welcoming more than 100 professional women golfers to vie for a $110,000 purse.
