Roscommon, MI – One of the country’s top young PGA professionals, Miles Blundell, has been tapped to oversee the golf operations at one of Michigan’s leading golf facilities, Forest Dunes Golf Club.
Blundell, a 30-year old PGA Master Professional, the second youngest to ever earn that status with the PGA of America, comes to Forest Dunes from Garland Resort in Michigan. He also previously held head professional positions at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Pennsylvania and Turning Stone Resort & Casino in New York.
“Forest Dunes is an amazing golf property. The combination of the course design, conditions, clubhouse facilities and beautiful surroundings of the Huron National Forest make it a perfect combination for incredible golf. I’m fortunate to be a part of the team and excited about the upcoming season and the future,” said Blundell.
Blundell graduated from the Professional Golf Management program at Pennsylvania State University in 2004. He has already earned numerous awards from the PGA of America including Resort Merchandiser of the Year in 2010 and 2011 in the Central New York PGA Section, along with the Junior Golf Leader Award in 2011.
“Having a PGA Master Professional like Miles, who brings a high level of energy and youth to the golf industry, is a perfect fit for our facility,” said Todd Campbell, general manager at Forest Dunes. “Miles experience as a Master Professional at his young age combined with his drive for developing successful operations will have an immediate impact on the future success of Forest Dunes.”
Forest Dunes Golf Club, which was designed by former British Open winner Tom Weiskopf, is unlike any other in northern Michigan. The front nine features parkland-style holes meandering through corridors of red and jack pines, with elaborate bunkering and sandy waste areas on the sides. The back nine is quite different, featuring open and exposed rugged native sand areas with scruffy underbrush bordering and crossing fairways and greens.
New for 2013 is the opening of the Lake AuSable Lodge in April. The new lodge will feature the same Adirondack architectural theme as the nearby golf clubhouse, using hardwoods, cedar shake siding and stone on the exterior. The lodge will offer 14 rooms and suites that will overlook scenic Lake AuSable and the No. 1 tee of the Forest Dunes golf course.
