Special $450 ‘early registration’ rate, 72-hole championship, ‘world’s largest 19th hole’
(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) — Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announces entry opens on April 3 for the 30th annual GOLF.com World Amateur Handicap Championship held August 26 – 30.
More than 3500 amateur golfers from 25 countries are expected to play on 60-plus area layouts including the Norman, Fazio and Love courses at Barefoot Resort, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, True Blue Golf Plantation and King’s North at Myrtle Beach National. Last year, baseball legend Roger Clemens joined 68 individual flight winners (and ties) in the fifth round championship playoff at TPC Myrtle Beach.
This year’s championship playoff will be held at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club.
Registration for the four-day, 72-hole event is $450 through May 15, a $100 savings off of the regular entry fee of $550. Registration is available at www.worldamgolf.com.
The entry fee additionally includes nightly access to “The World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The gala is a vast festival of golf featuring equipment demos, entertainment, open bars, concerts, prize drawings and food from superb area restaurants. Golf Channel analysts Charlie Rymer and Brandel Chamblee are among the early roster of celebrities slated to appear.
“For 30 years the World Am has exemplified what the game is all about through the joy of friendly competition and camaraderie,” says Jeff Monday, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director. “The beauty of the handicap system allows players of any and all abilities to vie for title of ‘World Champion’ in the golf capital of the U.S.”
The World Am is grouped according to USGA indexes with five competitive divisions ranging from men / women under 49 years old to super seniors 70 and above. Flight winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff where a World Champion is crowned. The event’s inclusiveness is apparent in its past champions as winners with handicaps as low as three and as high as 34 have won. Four women have hoisted the championship trophy.
