Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., April 18, 2013 / — The Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) has named Penny Larsen of Tampa, Florida as their Nancy Oliver Founder’s Award Winner, the organization’s highest honor for volunteer leadership. Larsen will receive the award during the Thursday night Gala Awards Celebration at EWGA’s Empower ’13 Conference taking place at Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa on May 8-11.
Since 1991, Larsen’s service has exemplified the spirit and mission of the association. “All along my goal was to help others. As one of the founding members of the organization in 1991, I recognized the value playing golf for business provided me and wanted to introduce as many other women to the game as possible. I have never looked back,” said Larsen. Her long-term leadership has taken her to serve as an association board member, treasurer, board president and as a leader on several strategic board committees. In addition, Larsen has represented EWGA at trade association meetings, speaking engagements and golf industry events. “I have been involved for so long, and enjoyed every minute of it; I feel like EWGA has shaped my core being,” said Larsen.
“The Nancy Oliver Founder’s Award designation is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging women to engage in their communities, while serving in a leadership role for EWGA. That’s what Penny Larsen does for this organization. Her passion for the game and welcoming nature is contagious – and it’s that welcoming spirit that invites women into the game and EWGA,” says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA.
Larsen’s efforts as an EWGA volunteer leader have translated into other significant volunteer leadership positions including: the American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Association for Corporate Growth, The University of Tampa’s Board of Fellows, Commercial Real Estate Women Board and several others.
As the largest women-focused amateur golf association in the U.S. with chapters in nearly every U.S. major market and corporate center, the EWGA has connected more than 125,000 working and professional women who share a passion for cultivating relationships and enjoying the game of golf.
