Claims first PGA Tour title of 2013 in playoff
(Londonderry, NH) – Danish brand ECCO – a leading global manufacturer of innovative footwear – confirms that Staff Player Graeme McDowell wore its luxurious World Class GTX golf shoes while capturing the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage this past weekend at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Showcasing the ECCO logo on his headwear, G-Mac began the final round four shots off the pace but shot a two-under 69 in heavy winds. That put him in a playoff against the defending U.S. Open champion, which the 33-year-old Northern Irishman won on the first hole.
“It was really tricky and gusty out there,” said McDowell. “I’m just very happy to get this win across the line.”
The only leather-soled golf shoe offered by a major manufacturer, World Class GTX combines traditional craftsmanship with modern performance technologies. Its rich leather uppers are completely waterproof via a GORE-TEX® membrane, while an ECCO Second Skin insole ensures superior cushioning.
“Graeme’s ball striking and putting are at their peak right now, and that makes him a threat each time he tees it up,” says Jesper Thuen, ECCO Global Sponsorship and PR Manager – Golf. “He’s in great position heading into the heart of the season.”
Currently ranked among the world’s top-20 players, McDowell has represented Europe as a member of the past three Ryder Cup teams. He’s now won 10 times since 2002, highlighted by the 2010 U.S. Open where he became the first European champion in 40 years.
In addition to G-Mac, the ECCO men’s golf collection is worn in competition by scores of international Tour stars, including Fred Couples, Thomas Bjørn, Stuart Appleby, Thongchai Jaidee, Andreas Hartø, Wu Ashun, JB Hansen and many others.
