South Carolina Golf Course Rating Panel releases biennial list of “Best Courses You Can Play” in the Palmetto state
Blythewood, S.C. (April 24, 2013) – Cobblestone Park Golf Club has broken into the list of “Best Courses You Can Play” in South Carolina, according to the biennial ranking just released by the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel (SCGCRP).
The list appears in an article in the Spring issue of Palmetto Golfer, the official publication of the South Carolina Golf Association, and contains 30 “elite” courses from four state regions: Midlands, Upstate, Low Country and Grand Strand. Course evaluations were made by the 120-plus members of the SCGCRP.
Cobblestone Park Golf Club joins such acclaimed layouts as The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island and Harbor Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island on the list of South Carolina’s premier courses. Cobblestone Park is the only newcomer to the “Best You Can Play” ranking list for 2013.
The club’s recent emergence as a national-class golf facility has been guided by the Atlanta-based golf management company, Affiniti Golf Partners, and the club’s general manager, Tom Graber.
“It is certainly gratifying to gain recognition as one of South Carolina’s finest courses,” says Graber, who has been at the club since 2005. “The recognition validates the daily hard work and care put in by our staff, and we hope all Columbia-area golfers will come out, play 18 and make Cobblestone Park their favorite area course for years to come.”
Cobblestone Park Golf Club is a 27-hole, semi-private facility designed by P.B. Dye. Perched on high ground in the north Columbia suburb of Blythewood, the club is just minutes from Interstate 77. Its three nines ramble through the highest elevation and most dramatic contours in Richland County. In fact, there are three or four spots on the golf course where you can look out over the pines and see for 10 miles or more.
The course, which originally opened as The University Club in 1995, continues to serve as the home course and practice facility for the men’s and women’s golf teams from the nearby University of South Carolina. Two of the three nines at Cobblestone Park, Black and Garnet, are named after USC’s school colors.
Cobblestone Park Golf Club and the remaining residential lots in the gated community of Cobblestone Park were recently acquired by D.R. Horton, a nationally recognized developer and home builder headquartered in Fort Worth, TX.
