NORTH STONINGTON, CONN., May 13, 2013 – Derek Hooper, Troon Golf Academy at Lake of Isles’ director of instruction, was the named the No. 1 golf instructor by the readers of New England Golf Monthly. Hooper has been at the Troon Golf Academy since its opening in 2005.
Hooper, who has more than 20 years of teaching experience, is an AAA member of the Australian PGA and has a degree in sports science and teaching methodology from the University of Queensland, Australia. He specializes in personal training programs designed to specifically meet the goals of each individual. He uses a five-step program: 1, assess a player’s skill; 2, set goals; 3, design the plan; 4, implement the plan; 5, track progress. Hooper utilizes this program with all of his students, including the High Performance and Junior Golf Scholarship programs where a number of graduates have earned collegiate scholarships.
