Oneida Nation Homelands (June 13, 2013) – A popular head golf professional at Turning Stone Resort Casino is returning to the premier golf destination in Central New York as Director of Golf Operations.
Miles Blundell, who was at Turning Stone Resort Casino from 2009-2012, is one of the top young golf professionals in the country. At 30, Blundell is the second youngest to become a PGA Master Professional, the highest certification by the PGA of America.
“I really appreciate the opportunity to return to Turning Stone Resort Casino,” said Blundell, who early last year accepted a Director of Golf position in Michigan. “It is one of the great golf resorts in the country and very special to me. Stepping into this new position at such an incredible property is something I could not turn down.”
An accomplished golf instructor who enjoys teaching juniors, Blundell was selected by the PGA of America as the 2011 Junior Golf Leader for the Central New York Section. His youth programs at Turning Stone included the popular Junior Elite Golf Camp and under Blundell’s direction both the Pleasant Knolls and Sandstone Hollow courses at the resort are both official US Kids Golf courses.
Blundell also was selected as the PGA Central New York Section’s Resort Merchandiser of the Year in 2011. That honor, which Blundell also won in 2010, is given for excellence in golf shop operations.
Blundell, who grew up playing junior golf in Europe, holds a degree in Professional Golf Management and a minor in Business from Penn State University. He received his Class A PGA membership in March 2005 and is one of the rare pros to complete all six sections of the Certified Professional Program. Since 2012 he has served as Director of Golf at Garland Resort and more recently at Forest Dunes Golf Club, both in Michigan.
Turning Stone Resort Casino has recently received a number of golf honors. Besides the three 18-hole layouts – Atunyote, Kaluhyat, and Shenendoah – being named to Golfweek’s “Top 40 Best Casino Courses” list, the property has been recognized by Golf World as among its “Best Golf Resorts” and “Best Casino Courses”; by Golf Magazine as a “Premier Resort”; and by Golf Odyssey as one of the “World’s Best Golf Destinations.”
