Roscommon, MI – Forest Dunes Golf Club has hired one of the top golf professionals in the country from Pebble Beach Resort. Chad Maveus, the first assistant at Pebble Beach Golf Links, will now oversee the golf operations at Forest Dunes.
“We are very excited about having Chad join our team at Forest Dunes,” said Todd Campbell, general manager at Forest Dunes. “The experience that he brings to us from Pebble Beach is a perfect fit for where we want to take Forest Dunes in the future.”
Maveus, a 38-year old PGA Professional, has made the move from northern California to northern Michigan. He spent nine years as one of the top golf professionals for Pebble Beach, but always had his eye on returning back to his roots in the Midwest.
“My wife Kerry and I always felt that we would be in California for 3-4 years, and then move back to the Midwest. However, Pebble Beach Golf Links definitely delayed our departure between various promotions and then the opportunity to serve as the U.S. Open Committee Chairman in 2010,” explains Maveus.
In addition to his operational experience at the U.S. Open, Maveus also worked on many other marquee events including the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and the Nature Valley First Tee Open. Combine that experience with over seeing the day-to-day operations for the No. 1 rated public golf course in the United States, and you have the perfect candidate for a high-end golf facility like Forest Dunes.
“My resume and experience could offer me some special opportunities, but you only leave Pebble Beach once, and I was not going to do that for just any facility. I had very specific criteria for my next professional path, but all previous offers and endeavors had fallen short for one reason or another, until Forest Dunes,” said Maveus.
Maveus graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1998 and earned his PGA membership status in 2005. Soon afterward he was off to northern California working at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi River, before heading to Pebble Beach. During that time, he and his wife Kerry, who is from northern Michigan, had always been looking for the opportunity to move back to the Midwest.
“I could not have been more impressed with the golf course, facility, land, and overall beauty of the environment of Forest Dunes. I have had the privilege to play many top 100 golf courses over the years, and Forest Dunes is a true gem,” said Maveus.
“While I’m leaving one of the most historic golf courses in America, steeped in nearly 100 years of tradition, I could not be more excited and grateful for the chance to see Forest Dunes grow and excel, while creating it’s own tradition and legacy right in Northern Michigan.”
