Quincy, Mass. – The wide, wild world of casino-based golf vacations is the centerpiece of GolfGetaways magazine’s July-August 2013 edition. The only national publication dedicated 100 percent to golf travel and the lifestyle that goes with it, GolfGetaways is available via subscription and through Barnes & Noble and other selected newsstands nationwide.
Starting with a sneak cover story peak at Arizona’s brand-new Sewailo at Casino del Sol near Tucson, the issue marks the newest installment in GolfGetaways’ annual tour of America’s great casino golf destinations. “I live smack in the middle of one of those must-visit regions, Reno-Tahoe, but there are so many more incredible places to play golf by day and hit the tables or slots by night,” says Executive Editor Vic Williams. “Golf and gaming seem to go hand in hand, whether you’re talking Atlantic City, Las Vegas or Northern Michigan. And we’re always happy to bring America’s many casino golf options to life for our readers.”
Beyond Managing Editor Darin Bunch’s exclusive first look at Sewailo and its soon-to-open golf course, GolfGetaways swings through several casino-friendly states, touching on resorts both familiar and surprising. There’s special emphasis on Arizona with stops at Wild Horse Pass near Phoenix, Ak-Shin and Southern Dunes in Maricopa, and Laughlin Ranch along the Colorado River. Other featured destinations include Black Mesa and the Santa Claran in New Mexico, several areas of Nevada from Lake Tahoe to Reno to Mesquite, Barona Creek in Southern California, Foxwoods in Connecticut and the collection of courses and resorts that make up the Atlantic City Golf Association. Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Oregon also get in on the action. “We leave no card unturned and no golf hole unplayed,” Williams adds. “All that’s left is for our fellow golf travelers to do is decide where to place their bets.”
Other issue highlights: A feature that follows wounded Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans through some of Ireland’s top courses; a fresh look at Pinehurst and environs as it gears up for next year’s men’s and women’s U.S. Opens; and a piece on Pacific Links International, a intriguing take on private club membership.
This and other issues of GolfGetaways will soon debut on Apple’s iTunes Newsstand, where readers can currently find two special issues on golf in Nebraska and Canada’s Cape Breton Island. The GolfGetaways app is free for download, with each digital edition available for $3.99. Additional tablet and smartphone formats are in the works.
