Leading health care company to bring wellness message to event; Lopez, Bradley, Stephenson and King headline field of LGPA Hall of Famers

FRENCH LICK, Ind. — Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, was announced today as the presenting partner of the upcoming Legends Championship, which will be held Sept. 23-29 at historic French Lick Resort in southern Indiana.

The tournament will feature LPGA legends such as Nancy Lopez, Pat Bradley, Jan Stephenson and Betsy King. The week-long celebration of women’s golf will feature a variety of golf events, with proceeds from the tournament benefitting the American Heart Association.

The partnership with Humana reflects a shared commitment by French Lick Resort, the Legends Championship and Humana to promote healthy living, with a special emphasis on women’s health and heart disease. The event will focus on bringing awareness to women and families about the importance of good health and nutrition.

“Humana is excited to partner with The Legends Championship and to bring our message of health and well-being to this major championship on The Legends Tour,” said Pattie Dale Tye, President of Humana’s Large Employer business. Tye spoke at a Monday news conference where Humana’s partnership was announced. “Our focus at Humana is on helping people achieve lifelong well-being, and we encourage people to simply walk – which is a wonderful part of the great game of golf, for players and spectators.”

In addition to its partnership with The Legends Championship, Humana sponsors the Humana Challenge PGA TOUR event each January. The company also has sponsor relationships with golfers Nancy Scranton, Harris English, David Toms, Bo Van Pelt and Humana well-being ambassador and golfing legend Gary Player.

“There is such a rich history of the LPGA and women’s golf at French Lick Resort dating back 50 years, which combined with the unparalleled quality and magnificent beauty of the resort, creates an ideal venue for this major championship,” said LPGA Legends Tour CEO Jane Blalock, CEO of The LPGA Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA..”The partnership will have a resounding impact on the state of Indiana, The Legends Tour, American Heart Association, and the great tradition of women’s golf.”

Legends Championship Activities

The Legends Championship event will feature a variety of activities, including two days of professional competition, a Pro-Am Sponsor event, the Alice Dye Women’s Invitational, LPGA’s Women’sClinic and other community outreach programs. The event will feature a field of up to 70 of the top women’s professional golfers in LPGA history, including 10 Hall of Fame players and seven Solheim Cup Captains.

Humana will encourage fans and community members to participate in its popular Humana Walkit Challenge by distributing free pedometers and encouraging people to track their steps each day during the tournament week. In addition, fans can visit the Humana Well-Being Tour, a mobile wellness center that will be stationed on-site. The Well-Being Tour includes opportunities to learn about and measure biometrics; participate in healthy, fun games like pedaling a bike to blend a fruit smoothie; and register for the Humana Walkit program by picking up a free pedometer.

The history of women’s golf at French Lick dates back to 1957 where Louise Suggs captured the French Lick Women’s Open on the historic Donald Ross course. A few years later the LPGA Championship was also brought to the historic site. In 1959 Betsy Rawls won the LPGA major followed by the legendary Mickey Wright winning the title in 1960 also held on the Ross course. In 2013, the history will continue not only with the elite and historic competition, but also with creation of a new LPGA Legends Hall of Fame.

“We are very excited to have Humana be part of this celebration of women’s golf and bringing awareness to a healthy lifestyle and the dangers of heart disease,” said Dave Harner, French Lick Resort’s director of golf. “This will be a great week to celebrate women’s golf and a great opportunity for all Indiana golf enthusiasts, especially the ladies to come out and experience history up close during the event.”
