CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 30, 2013) – It was a big weekend for Nippon Shaft, the steel shaft of choice for the winners of both the U.S. Women’s Open and the Irish Open.
The winner of the U.S. Women’s Open used Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO 950GH steel shafts in her irons. The victory was her third LPGA major championship this year. She is only the fourth LPGA player in history to win three majors in the same season, joining three legends of the women’s game: Babe Zaharias, Mickey Wright and Pat Bradley.
Meanwhile, on the European Tour, the Irish Open winner used the Nippon Shaft N.S. PRO PROTOTYPE ORA shaft with an X flex in his irons to come from four strokes behind in windy conditions at Carton House outside Dublin. The oft-injured 35-year-old Englishman started the final round four strokes behind the leader, but closed with a final round 5-under par 67 to win by three. On the par 5 18th, he hit the green in two despite a poor tee shot and drained a 50-footer for eagle to win in style.
