The July edition of The Pellucid Perspective released on 7/15 provides multi-faceted coverage of the June announcement by Golf Channel Solutions (GolfNow) that it had acquired Point-of-Sale provider, FORE! Reservations. While there has been much emotional discussion on the topic and the pros and cons (mostly cons) in places like NGCOA’s ListServ, there hasn’t been any objective assessment of what the post-acquisition choices are for FORE’s existing clients, the future of barter or GolfNow’s strategy in the acquisition.
Pellucid begins the dialogue in filling in some of these gaps with our July Perspective issue which features 3 articles on the topic:
- Contributing Editor Harvey Silverman writes the quantitative treatment of the acquisition and their future platform strategy based on a half-day session which Pellucid attended in Orlando with key GolfNow managers
- Contributing Columnist Stuart Lindsay (and Pellucid’s go-to-guy for golf technology-related issues) writes about the dual-edged sword of the potential for either significant technology advancement or the acceleration of barter and pricing challenges for the industry depending on GolfNow’s post-acquisition actions
- Contributing Editor Harvey Silverman also summarizes the feedback from and stated intentions from roughly a dozen Pellucid clients who are existing FORE clients and what they consider to be their options in this brave new world (some choosing patience, some looking for the exits)
While this is assuredly only the first chapter in a new book on golf marketing technology sophistication, options and use (hopefully it’s not a Harry Potter-esque storyline), Pellucid is filling the gap left by traditional industry trade publications in covering stories which are at the heart of the business of golf.
