Lake Tahoe community will welcome 156 of the world’s top junior golfers July 22-27, 2013
TRUCKEE, Calif.-July 9, 2013-Martis Camp, a private golf and ski community in North Lake Tahoe, is preparing to host a field of 156 of the world’s top junior golfers for the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), on July 22-27, 2013. The Tom Fazio-designed golf course, which opened for play in 2008 and also hosted the 2011 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship, will be set up at 7,675-yards, the longest course yardage in the event’s history. This will be the 71st USGA championship held in California and the 10th U.S. Junior Amateur held in the state.
“It’s a thrill to see the Martis Camp community embrace this championship and rally to support the USGA and players,” said Gus Jones, head golf professional at Martis Camp. “Hosting a national championship like this takes a tremendous amount of coordination and member participation. We’re anxious to get the event underway on July 22nd and crown a new Junior Amateur champion.”
A starting field of 156 golfers will compete in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The competitors must have not reached their 18th birthday on or before July 27th and have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 6.4. Practice rounds will be held on July 20-21, with two 18-hole stroke-play qualifying rounds July 22-23. The field will be cut to the lowest 64 scorers for match play. Six rounds of match play will determine the champion with the championship match contested over 36 holes. Admission to the event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
