After-school golf enrichment programs being offered in leading Pennsylvania school districts
Pittsburgh, PA – TGA Premier Junior Golf, one of the leading after-school sports programs in the country, continues expanding with a new territory in the state of Pennsylvania. Doug Yannascoli, a 15-year public school educator, has launched the new program in southwest Pittsburgh.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Doug’s experience as an educator and passion for youth sports join our team. No doubt he will positively impact the youth in the Pittsburgh area,” says Steve Tanner, TGA chief operating officer. “The continued growth of our after-school golf programs and the impact it is having on the growth of the game is exciting. It is a testament to the quality consumer program our team has developed at TGA.”
Yannascoli grew up in Morgantown, PA, and earned a B.S. and Masters degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock University in Western Pennsylvania. He has been a physical education instructor for over 15 years, the last ten in the Pittsburgh area. He has been very interested in getting involved in after-school sports programs and recognized that TGA’s school-based program was a perfect fit to not only allow him to expand upon his education and youth sports background, but that it would also bring back after-school sports programs to the district, which recently underwent budget cuts.
“Being a physical educator for the past 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach students in grades K-8 the importance of being active and living a healthy lifestyle. The TGA opportunity allows me to expand on that,” explains Yannascoli. “With all of the budget cuts that have been implemented in Pennsylvania, after-school programs all over the state are being eliminated, including in my district. Bringing a TGA after-school golf program to the Pittsburgh area will provide students the opportunity again to experience youth sports.”
TGA’s five level enrichment program enables children to advance from one stage to the next while building confidence and self-esteem. The unique curriculum is designed to improve students’ lives through physical activity, health and nutrition and character building. The program also incorporates academic lessons in math, science, social studies and language.
Yannascoli has quickly begun impacting and enriching the lives of area students with seven schools already signing up in one of the top three school districts in the state of Pennsylvania.
“Partnering with schools to provide an affordable after-school program that combines key education components with important life lessons on and off the golf course is very motivating for me. It is a win-win situation for the students, parents and school,” says Yannascoli.
TGA Premier Junior Golf of Southwest Pittsburgh is expected to impact thousands of youth annually by introducing the game of golf to children at elementary and middle schools, child care centers and community organizations through its multi-level enrichment program. TGA then transitions students from schools to local partner golf courses through camps and parent-child events, creating new golfers and generating new customers for local golf courses.
“The sport of golf was rarely, if ever, talked about or played in my school or circle of friends growing up as a youth,” Yannascoli notes. “To be able to offer these quality programs to children in the Southwest Pittsburgh area and grow the game of golf is a privilege and one that I am very excited to begin.”
