Lewis claims second major title with incredible comeback victory in final two holes at historic St. Andrews
Norcross, Ga. (Aug. 5, 2013) – In historic comeback fashion, Mizuno ambassador Stacy Lewis captured her second career LPGA major championship, defeating the world’s top female golfers at the famed St. Andrews Golf Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. Utilizing Mizuno’s JPX-825 Pro Irons, a JPX-825 Hybrid, MP-650 3-wood and MP T-11 wedges, Lewis capped off an incredible final round with back-to-back birdies on the difficult par four 17th and 18th hole to shoot an even-par 72 for a total score of 8-under to claim victory.
Lewis provided golf fans around the world a dramatic comeback, erasing a three-stroke deficit on the back nine to earn a two-shot victory over Na Yeon Choi and Hee Young Park. Battling gusty wind conditions and playing 36 holes of golf on Sunday, Lewis’s precise iron play using her JPX-825 Pro irons carried her into the lead, shot by shot. None more precise than a 5-iron approach shot on the 17th hole that rolled three feet from the flag and gave Lewis a tap-in birdie. Lewis capped off the comeback with another birdie on the 18th hole, virtually sealing the victory and her second major title.
“Stacy is one of the most energizing golfers to watch and her victory at The British Open further showcased her golf ability and her position as one of the stars of the Tour,” said Chuck Couch, Vice President of Product Management, Golf Division for Mizuno USA, Inc. “We congratulate Stacy on her second major Tour victory.
