Asia is beginning to wake up to a new revenue generator for tourism and it is called GOLF TOURISM.
For many years, thousands of golfers have enjoyed the pleasure of playing golf in exotic Thailand which is without doubt, Asia’s hottest golf destination.
In the past few years, nations like Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Australia have jumped on the golf tourism bandwagon. One can understand why because this is a sector of the tourism industry that is worth billions of dollars annually!
One man who understands golf tourism intimately is Rodney Bogg, President of OnCourse Golf. He has been signed on to speak at the 2013 Asia Pacific Golf Summit on golf tourism and what it can do for countries and golf clubs in the Asia Pacific region.
Bogg has been involved in golf club management for more than 40 years, including the past 26 years in Dubai where he opened and managed the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, and Nad Al Sheba Golf Club on behalf of the Government of Dubai.
As Managing Director of Dubai Golf he was closely involved with the Department of Tourism developing Dubai as a golfing destination, culminating in several awards from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.
He was also responsible for the establishment of a consultancy division of Dubai Golf which was involved in the establishment of many of the other clubs in UAE and the GCC region.
Based in the Middle East, Bogg’s 23 years as managing director of Dubai Golf makes his knowledge and experience of the challenges faced in managing golf clubs in the region virtually unique.
“The global golf tourism market is worth over US$17 billion and an estimated five to ten percent of the 56 million people who play golf worldwide travel overseas each year for the main purpose of playing golf,” Bogg revealed.
He went on to explain, “The international size of the golf tourism market is between 2.8 million and 5.6 million and the Asia Pacific is poised to attract a good number of these golf travelers in the years to come”.
Come and listen to Rodney Bogg as he shares his vast experience on golf tourism promotion and marketing.
