BELLINGHAM, Washington – An industry leader in innovative composite shaft technology, Aerotech Golf announces that 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Super Senior champion Eric Jones of Pleasanton, Calif., qualified for the 2013 RE/MAX World Long Championship using a super-light, low-torque Claymore graphite shaft. At almost 55 years of age, Jones was the oldest contestant to qualify in this year’s Senior Division (over 45) and will now compete for both Senior and Super Senior (over 50) Division titles later this year in Mesquite, Nev.
For his Senior Division qualifer, Jones slammed a 347-yard drive into a gusty head wind, using a driver that featured an Aerotech Claymore MX60 (F5 flex) graphite shaft and Geek No Brainer head. The driver was built by professional clubfitter John Greenwood of Dublin, Calif. Last year, Jones won the Super Senior Division title at the 2012 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship with a Claymore-shafted driver. He previously won the 2003 RE/MAX World Long Drive Senior Champion title and LDA Long Drive Tour Senior Rookie of the Year for 2004.
“Our contined success on the Long Drive Tour, combined with our wins on the PGA and Champions Tours, has been very exciting and we couldn’t be more pleased with the high-performance benefits demonstrated by our Claymore line of golf shafts,” says Aerotech Golf President Chris Hilleary. “The Claymore is a low-torque, super-lightweight, filament-wound shaft specifically engineered to provide extreme stability and consistency – even during the most powerful golf swings – and it has become a real favorite among players with very high clubhead speeds.”
The Claymore shafts utilize a new micro-thin Micro-Tex Carbon Fiber that allows more high-modulus fibers to be incorporated into specific fiber angles including the hoop wound (90°) surface layer which minimizes shaft distortion for superior stability. The long drive model (Claymore LD) is available in three flexes LD400 (4X flex), LD300 (3X flex) and LD200 (2X flex). MSRP $199. Aerotech has also introduced two non-long drive specific Claymore models – MX48 and MX60 – with five flex levels (F1-F5) each. The MX48 weights are 47 grams (F1 flex) through 50 grams (F5 flex), while the slightly heavier MX60 model weighs in at 57 grams (F1) to 60 grams (F5). MSRP $99. The fact that Eric Jones won the World Long Drive Super Senior division title using the MX60, and not the Claymore LD, is a real testament to this shaft’s stability.
Aerotech Golf shafts are available as custom options with many nationally celebrated golf club manufacturers such as Titleist, TaylorMade, Nike Golf, Bridgestone Golf, Cleveland Golf, Miura, Srixon, KZG, Nakashima and Scratch Golf. Aerotech Golf shafts are also available through professional golf clubfitters around the world. Aerotech Golf is a proud supporter of the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals (AGCP) and the International Clubmakers Guild (ICG).
