Richmond, Virginia – Volvik staff player Christine Song fired a final-round 1-under 71 to earn her second victory of 2013 using a Yellow Volvik Vista 4-piece golf ball at the Eagle Classic Presented by Bag Boy Sunday.
Song finished the tournament at 8-under-par and took home a 3-stroke victory. This week’s victory marked Song’s second win on Tour this season, making her the first player to earn multiple trips to the winner’s circle on the 2013 Symetra Tour. With the victory, Song is making a valiant attempt to earn her way back to the LPGA Tour. In 2009, Song finished No. 6 on the Volvik Race for the Card standings, earning her conditional LPGA status for the 2010 season. She then decided to primarily focus on the Symetra Tour in 2010 and won two events which proved to be good enough to land her third on the season-ending Volvik Race for the Card standings earning her full-status on the 2011 LPGA Tour. Song entered the Eagle Classic Presented by Bag Boy at No. 16 on the Volvik Race for the Card, but the commanding victory catapulted her to No. 2 in the Race.
“It would mean so much,” said Song of returning to the LPGA. “I don’t want to play here for too long and I just want to see all my friends out there too and play well. To be honest, I really scrambled a lot this week and the last two days. There’s nothing like my first win but it still feels really good.”
The win was the 5th victory for a player using Volvik golf balls in the past year on the LPGA Tour and Symetra Tour and the 8th victory for Volvik worldwide since 2012.
Over 20 players are using Volvik colored golf balls on the 2013 Symetra Tour. Volvik players have now earned two Victories, eight Top 10 finishes and 19 Top 25 finishes so far in 2013.
There are only two events remaining on the Symetra Tour, the Volvik Championship at Reunion Resort in Orlando Sept. 20-22 and the Symetra Tour Championship at LPGA International Sept. 26-29.
It was the Fullerton, Calif. natives fourth Symetra Tour victory. It was also the fourth Symetra Tour victory by a player playing a Volvik golf ball, the first two coming in 2012 by Volvik staff players Mi Hyang Lee and Victoria Elizabeth. Both players now currently play on the LPGA Tour after earning their tour cards through the Symetra Tour. Song’s first win this year came at the Sara Bay Championship, the second event of the 2013 Symetra Tour season.
“I think the break, the delay got me more focused,” said Song. “I wasn’t hitting it good the first two holes and thankfully they let us hit some balls on the range before we went out. I think I fixed it.”
Volvik is the official golf ball of the Symetra Tour and is also the sponsor of the Volvik Race for the Card. At every Symetra Tour event, the driving range is covered in Volvik’s colorful high-performance 3-piece and 4-piece golf balls for all Symetra Tour players to practice with. This year marks the second year 10 players will receive fully-exempt status on next year’s LPGA Tour.
