(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) — The Sea Pines Resort – home of the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage – will host the “Els for Autism Golf Challenge” benefiting the Els for Autism Foundation on its iconic Harbour Town Golf Links, Sept. 9.
Spearheaded by golf superstar Ernie Els and his wife Liezl, the Els for Autism Foundation is raising funds for the creation of the Els Center of Excellence. The Center will be a school for children on the autism spectrum ages 3-21 and a hub for Els for Autism’s worldwide operations; enabling the Foundation to make a difference to thousands of families with children on the spectrum across the U.S. and beyond.
The Golf Challenge consists of a series of Super Regional events at top-rated courses across the U.S. and Canada from April through September. Two-person teams compete for a place at the Grand Finale – a two-day extravaganza of golf and entertainment hosted by Els and his friends from the PGA TOUR in Las Vegas on October 13 – 14. All teams raising $13,000 or more automatically qualify for the Grand Finale.
The Harbour Town event is one of 20 events being held at top-rated courses across the U.S. and Canada. Golfers receive an Els for Autism gift bag, box lunch, use of Harbour Town’s world-class practice facilities, locker room access, cocktail reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres and an awards presentation in the clubhouse. Registration is $600 per player. Teams can register online at: www.elsforautism.com/harbourtown or by calling 888-890-9114.
Additionally, Els for Autism will be working with The PGA of America and local Autism Groups to create a #GameON Autism Youth Golf Clinic at Harbour Town on the day of the Golf Challenge. Local children on the autism spectrum are invited to participate in the clinic.
“The Els for Autism Foundation provides incredible help for children and families who cope daily with this disorder,” says Rick and Gay Reichel, longtime friends of the Els and chairpersons of the Els for Autism Golf Challenge, Hilton Head.
“Harbour Town serving as the host venue of the Els for Autism Golf Challenge is an ideal combination of a legendary course and a truly noble cause,” says Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports & Operations. “The work of Ernie, Liezl and their foundation is a true blessing to families around the world and we here at Sea Pines are more than happy to help in any way we can.”
